So QQ is moving along nicely. I've got page sketches done and the first page is almost finished, so I'll make some previews for everyone to see. I'm using a lot if tones, which are pretty difficult when you're used to colors. Still, I think I got the hang of it and the comic is looking good!
Okay, so I follow artists on Instagram and one caught my eye in a negative way, today. They posted how when people compliment their work by saying "Oh, it reminds me of another artist" that it makes them feel bad because now they don't feel original.
Here's where my rant comes in: Nobody is original. Unique, sure, but to think you're doing something nobody's ever seen before is, to me, very arrogant. Your work is always going to be compared; that's how some people give feedback. It's not out of spite, it's just how they express encouragement. I don't mind the comparisons if I get them; you're always going to take from other artists and make what is unique to you.

Oh, I'm updating?!
Well well well, it's been quite some time since I posted a journal entry here...almost a year, to be exact. Time has really flown by!
So, let me catch everyone up to date: From the post last year, I took a pretty long break from my art. I was completely burned out and really upset that, from a previous art convention, I did really poorly. It left me in a very disappointed state not only with how my art career had been turning out, but about my art in general. Even looking at a pen drained any energy I would have had to draw. I believe it was about...4-5 months(?) before I started sketching things out.
I didn't like anything I had made.
My
September.
I never posted about the convention I sold my artwork at back in July.
I sold one print. In 2 days.
I figured I'd do a sale at my online shop and take 20% off until August 31st.
It's September 1st. Not one person bought a print.
I was reading a thread on Reddit about how people have decided to move on from their art careers since it's getting harder to find employment and I'd say I feel the same way...but I never got the chance to be employed for my art skills. Instead, I'm feeling disillusioned about the whole damn thing and wondering if I've already missed my chance to live my dream. People always say that it takes time, there will be a
Prints are Finished!
My prints were delivered earlier this week! They came out perfect...
So! This means that everything is ready for Garden State Comic Fest and I could not be more excited. I'm optimistic that this convention will be better than my first, mainly because of foot traffic and the quality of my art now.
These are the prints for sale (which you can pick up at my online shop):
My birthday is also this Thursday, so I'll be enjoying majority of this week at home or at the movies (and then the weekend is dedicated to GSCF).
If anyone is in the New Jersey area come check it out! There's going to be some cool guests, fellow artists, and meeeeeeeeeeeeee
Whoooooa...been a while.
New drawing is up. Go looksies.
I also finished Chapter 5 of Short Order Mobile Action. Go read here

I guess I'm kind of at a place where a compliment is a compliment, you know? but i guess that's not everyone. Either way, the reasons that people are reminded of things can vary widely, from the tone to the methodology to the kind of ideas and general subject of people's art. Comparisons like that always lead to kind of interesting thoughts for me. I think people who are upset about that must either have some personal ego or a real lack of confidence. Or else, perhaps they've just got that kind of so many times that they're tired of it. Heh.
Yay on comic stuff!
